Kent State’s Chris Evans Garners Fourth MAC East Player Of The Week Honor

Consecutive double-doubles lands fourth conference honor of the season for senior forward.


CLEVELAND, Ohio –Kent State senior forward Chris Evans (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up his fourth Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Award this season on Monday (Feb. 18). Evans shared the honor this week with Buffalo's Tony Watson after helping the Golden Flashes earn a split in their contests against MAC foes Miami and Ohio.  

Evans recorded a double-double in both games and averaged 20.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 assists while shooting over 60 percent from the field. Evans turned in one of his best performances of the season in leading the Golden Flashes past Miami, 87-70, Wednesday at the M.A.C. Center. He led all players with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals in just 28 minutes of action. Evans made 9/14 shots from the field and added a pair of assists and a blocked shots while committing just a single turnover.


On Saturday, Evans had Kent State on the verge on getting a huge road victory in front of a national television audience on ESPNU before falling in overtime to Ohio, 78-75. Evans scored 12 of his game-high 18 points after halftime and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Evans scored the opening basket of the overtime period to give Kent State a 71-69 lead and added a dunk with 2:16 remaining that tied the game.

 

Among the most versatile players in the conference, Evans leads Kent State in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (7.5 rpg), steals (2.0 spg), and blocks (0.7 bpg).

Last week, Evans was named as a participant for the "State Farm Dark Horse Dunker" competition. The winner of the competition will participate in the Denny's Slam Dunk Competition at the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Atlanta, Ga. April 4 on ESPN. Fans will determine the winner by voting during each round at the official Facebook page (facebook.com/CollegeSlam). Evans recorded four dunks against Miami and another dunk in Athens on Saturday, bringing his season total to 30.
