Evans, Holt Represent Kent State on All-MAC Teams

Evans is KSU's sixth straight First Team honoree, while Holt earns Third Team recognition.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two Kent State men's basketball players were among those recognized on the 2013 All-Mid-American Conference Teams, the league office announced on Monday (March 11). Senior forward Chris Evans (Chesapeake, Va.) was a First Team selection while senior guard Randal Holt (Cleveland, Ohio) was named Third Team.

"I'm really happy for both Chris and Randal for being selected as all-conference players," head coach Rob Senderoff said of his two senior captains. "Both have had outstanding senior years and have really led our team in every way."

This marks the sixth consecutive year that Kent State has had a player named to the five-member First Team, which is the longest active streak in the conference. Justin Greene (2011, 2012) and Al Fisher (2008, 2009) were both two-time honorees and Chris Singletary was named First Team in 2010.

Evans, who was honored by the conference five times this season as the East Division Player of the Week, is the 22nd player in program history to earn First Team All-MAC accolades. In conference games, Evans led the Golden Flashes in scoring (16.8 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg), and steals (2.0 spg). Among the nation's most versatile players, Evans is the only player in Division I with 170 field goals, 30 three-pointers, 125 free throws, 225 rebounds, 60 assists, 60 steals, and 20 blocks on the season. He was also the only player in the MAC ranked top ten in points, rebounds, offensive rebounds, steals, field goal percentage, and minutes played.

Holt, the only four-year member of the program on this season's squad, earns his second All-MAC nod following Honorable Mention recognition last year. He averaged 15.4 points and 2.9 assists in conference. For the season, he led the conference in free throw shooting (.856) and three-pointers (2.6 per game), while also ranking in the top ten in scoring (14.4 ppg) and three-point shooting (.386). Holt is Kent State's all-time leader in three-pointers (238) and ranks ninth on the all-time scoring list with 1,350 career points.

"Randal has obviously had a great career here and Chris has improved tremendously since arriving as a junior," added Senderoff. "Neither of them were on any pre-season all-conference team, so this is really a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the year."

Kent State begins play in the 2013 FirstEnergy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland with a quarterfinal game on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. SportsTime will be broadcasting the game live.
