Men's Golf Begins Play At Toledo's Inverness Intercollegiate On Monday


Kent State men's golf returns to action early next week at the Inverness Intercollegiate.  Hosted by Toledo at the at the renowned par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club, the 11-team tournament is scheduled to be played on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 26-27.  Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com

Format
The tournament consists of  54-holes.  The first and second rounds will be played consecutively on Monday followed by a final round on Tuesday.

Golden Flashes Line-Up
Representing the Golden Flashes this week are senior Mackenzie Hughes, junior Kevin Miller, sophomores Taylor Pendrith, Corey Conners, Kyle Kmiecik and freshman Nick Scott.  

Quick Flashes
•    Mackenzie Hughes (210) and Kyle Kmiecik (210) tied for the lead in the 54-hole team qualifier last weekend.  Also making the trip this week are Corey Conners (213), Kevin Miller (216), Taylor Pendrith (216) and Nick Scott (218).
•    Nick Scott will be making his college debut while Kyle Kmiecik is making his first appearance for Kent State

The Course

Inverness Club was founded in 1903 and served as the host course for the 2009 NCAA Championship. Inverness has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur.  

The Field
The 11-team field consists of five teams - No. 6 Florida, No. 23 Ohio State, No. 32 Kent State, No. 33 Liberty and No. 34 Michigan - that were ranked in the Top 35 of the final 2010-11 Golfweek NCAA rankings.  Also making up the field will be East Tennessee State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Penn State, South Alabama and Toledo.

This is the first time Toledo has hosted an event on the course since the 2008 NCAA Preview in which Kent State participated.  The Golden Flashes have played in the Inverness all seven years it has taken place.  Kent State had its best showing in 2004 when the team tied for third with a 54-hole team score of 886.
