No. 23/25 Kent State Makes A Move Into Fifth At Bank of Tennessee


Golden Flashes' 288 is the third lowest round of the day

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — The No. 23/25 Kent State men's golf team shot an even par 288 to make a move into fifth place after the second of three round at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate @ Blackthorn Club.  The Golden Flashes performance was the third lowest round of the day by the 15-team field and gained the team nine shots on the leader.

Kent State (303-288=593) will enter the final round one shot back of Wake Forest in fourth and nine shots back of leader NC State.   

Sophomore Corey Conners (Listowel, Ontario) was once again was the low man for Kent State on the par 72, 7147-yard course.  He answered yesterday's 75 with a one-under 71 that included a string of three consecutive birdies on holes Nos. 6-7-8.  Tied for 24th at the start of the day he climbed 18 places on the field and was tied for sixth when all was said and done this afternoon with a two-over 146 (75-71).  

Another sophomore, Taylor Pendrith (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and senior Mackenzie Hughes (Dundas, Ontario) each added round of even par 72 to make their move up the scoreboard as well.  Pendrith, who is now tied for 20th with 148 (76-72), birdied No. 10 to start the round and had a bogey on No. 18 while making 16 pars.  Hughes meanwhile had three birdies and three bogeys in his round.  The reigning B.O.T. Individual medalist he is now tied for 27th with a 150 (78-72) after starting the morning in 50th.

Junior Kevin Miller (Dover, Ohio) was the fourth counter on Saturday supplying the Golden Flashes with a one-over 73 that featured two birdies and three bogeys.  His 149 (76-73) has him tied for 21st.  Sophomore Kyle Kmiecik (Avon, Ohio) completed the Kent State line-up with his second consecutive round of 76.  His 152 total ties him for 32nd.  

Competing as an individual freshman Nick Scott (Union, Ohio) had an even par 72 making two birdies and two bogeys.    

Final round action concludes tomorrow starting at 9:20 am off hole No. 1 for Kent State. The Golden Flashes will be paired with Clemson and Wake Forest.
