The Kent State women's softball team is looking to clinch their fifth straight MAC East Division title this weekend.  With five seniors in the roster, it's no doubt that each individual fulfills their role in making the feat a reality.  Among those seniors, is first baseman, Alyssa Frobase (Curtice, Ohio/St. Ursala Academy) who has been a key asset in the Golden Flashes hunt for the title.  As a left-handed threat, Frobase is known for the power she can bring at the plate in tough situations.  In her career she has blasted 7 homeruns, including a grandslam this season in the win over Buffalo (March 29).  Notably, these hits come when she is called upon by Head Coach Karen Linder in pinch hit situations, showing her ability to step up to a challenge. As Frobase and her fellow seniors look to secure a MAC title in all four of their years as Golden Flashes, these timely hits are sure to come as they head into Mid-American Conference play at Firestone Stadium May 12-16th.

We were able to catch up with Alyssa and get a more indepth look behind one of Kent State softball's power hitters.

How old were you when you started playing?
I first started playing when I was 7 years old.  I began playing for the boy's baseball team because our area didn't offer softball that young.  When I was 8 I began playing travel ball for a 12 and under softball team.

What's your favorite things about playing softball?
My favorite things about softball are: the competition, the team atmosphere, constantly bettering myself and the addictive feeling you get when you make a great play or hit a home run.  Softball is who I am - every weekend since the age of 7.

If you could go back to tee ball and change your position, what would it be to and why?
I think I would have worked harder towards being a pitcher.  I pitched for a number of years, but think if I really put work and time into it I could have excelled.

What's your second favorite sport to play besides softball?
Volleyball is my favorite sport to play besides softball.

Who is your favorite player all-time (baseball or softball)?
Honestly, I don't have a favorite softball or baseball player of all time.  However, my favorite athlete would definitely have to be Michael Jordan.

What made you choose Kent State?
I chose Kent State because it seemed like a great fit.  Going on my visits I just felt at home here in Kent.  It seemed like the place for me.  Plus, I loved meeting the team; their chemistry was something I wanted to be a part of.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
If I could live anywhere in the world I would pick Hawaii because it is beautiful.

What is your dream job and why?
I want to become a Physician Assistant in an orthopedic office because I love helping others and I love sports - two of my favorite things!  Working in an orthopedic office would give me the ability to still be involved in athletics - hopefully getting athletes back on their feet.  I would be able to easily relate to them having been a collegiate athlete.

What is your favorite food?
Everything! I truly cannot pick just one food!

What advice would you give to incoming players?
The advice I would give to incoming players would be to make a great first impression on your coaches and teammates.   How someone first perceives you is directly related to how they will treat you for a long time.
