KENT, Ohio - Kent State softball has teamed up with the Family Child Learning Center in Tallmadge in making "Strides For Autism." FCLC specializes in early intervention for children who have been diagnosed with autism.

The Golden Flashes are sponsoring Joey Cheney, a 4-year old boy with autism, who has recently made major breakthroughs in communication and motor skills with the help of FCLC. In an effort to help Joey and children like him, the KSU softball team has made it a goal to raise $1,000 for Strides For Autism.

Donations can be made at FirstGiving.com, which can also be accessed through KentStateSports.com. In addition, the Golden Flashes will be accepting donations for FCLC at its home games this weekend.

KSU is scheduled to play a doubleheader against Western Michigan Friday at 1 p.m., followed by single games against Northern Illinois Saturday and Sunday. Cheney will be throwing out the first pitch of Saturday's game at 2 p.m.
