Flashes Lead Over Pitt Spoiled by Snow
KENT, Ohio - The heavy snowfall could not have come at a better time for Pittsburgh as Wednesday's game at Kent State was canceled in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Golden Flashes had just scored five runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead, before the snow started coming down harder.
"Although the game doesn't officially count, this was good for our confidence" Head Coach Karen Linder said. "We showed what we're capable of doing against a good team."
Lauren Grimes led off the fourth with a single the opposite way and Alex Marcantonio followed with a home run to center to tie the game. Jess Carmichael and Shannon Laughlin made it four hits in a row for the Flashes with singles to center. Two batters later, current MAC East Player of the Week Abbey Ledford launched a three-run homer to left center, just before the game was stopped.
"This will keep us hungry going into the weekend," Linder said.
The Golden Flashes (9-16) are scheduled to open conference play Friday with a doubleheader at Bowling Green.
