Ten Flashes Named National Fastpitch Scholar Athletes

Ten Kent State softball players were recently named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athletes for the 2009-10 school year. The NFCA also released its top team grade point averages, where the Golden Flashes ranked 27th with a 3.368 GPA over two semesters.

With a long history of academic success, KSU has had 14 different players honored as Academic All-Americans and has consistently ranked in the top 30 team GPAs.

Lauren Brocklehurst and Ashlee Hein earned Scholar Athlete honors for the third consecutive year, while Sara Chance and Amy Hair claimed NFCA accolades for the second straight year. First time honorees for the Flashes included Danielle Abernathy, Rachel Wilson, Heather Duhon, Maleeya Coleman, Markie Pozzuto and Holly Finchum.

Kent State's 2011 season gets underway Feb. 12-13 at the Phoenix Leadoff Classic, which includes two games against host Elon. The following weekend (Feb. 18-20), KSU will have its hands full at East Carolina's Pirate Classic, taking on three NCAA Tournament opponents.
