Toocheck Named Head Coach at Medina

MEDINA, Ohio - Kent State graduate Jessica Toocheck was recently named head softball coach at Medina High School. The 2008 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Toocheck spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Medina.

"It’s an exciting oppotunity for Jess to take over at her alma mater," KSU coach Karen Linder said. "They have a strong tradition and I think she’ll do well because of her energy, enthusiasm and loyalty to Medina. The kids will respect her because of all that she has accomplished and she’ll relate really well to them."

Toocheck is one of three seniors from Kent State’s 2008 NCAA Tournament team to currently hold a head coaching position in the high school ranks. Gabe Burns leads her alma mater Wellsville and Jamie Fitzpatrick was recently named head coach at Fellowship Christian Academy in her home state of Georgia. Seven Golden Flashes during Linder’s tenure hold head jobs, while several others serve as assistant coaches.

An Academic All-American in 2008, Toocheck was a three-time All-MAC First Team selection. She also earned the Janet Bachna Award, which honors Kent State’s top senior female student-athlete.
