Flashes' Five-Game Winning Streak Ends at Northern Illinois
DEKALB, Ill.- Northern Illinois scored four runs in the third and three in the fifth on its way to a 7-3 home victory over Kent State Saturday afternoon. The Huskies (17-23, 5-6) battled back from a three-run deficit to end the Golden Flashes (22-19, 8-3) five-game winning streak.
A double by junior Lauren Grimes (Tallmadge, Ohio) and a triple by freshman Kim Kirkpatrick (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) highlighted the Flashes' three-run third. But it would turn out to be the only inning Kent State could get on the board.
Freshman Dani Ramos (South Euclid, Ohio) also had a hit and scored in the third. She led the Flashes offensively, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Freshman Emma Johnson (Groveport, Ohio), sophomore Lauren McNeil (Akron, Ohio) and junior Danielle Abernathy (Adairsville, Ga.) all allowed runs.
The Huskies strung together four hits in their four-run third and scored on a dropped third strike.
An error put a leadoff runer on in the bottom of the fifth, prior to four more Northern Illinois hits, two of which stayed in the infield.
Kent State will get its rematch against Northern Illinois Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern.
