Johnson Earns Second MAC Weekly Honor

CLEVELAND- Kent State freshman Emma Johnson (Groveport, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference Co-East Division Pitcher of the Week Tuesday.  The award marks the second weekly conference honor for Johnson in her first season.

 

In four conference appearances this past weekend, Johnson went 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA and complete game victories in each of her two starts.  On Saturday, Johnson held Eastern Michigan to just one run on three hits in seven innings of work.

 

Friday, Johnson allowed two runs on four hits in her start against Central Michigan.  Later that day, she helped the Flashes sweep the Chippewas, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

 

For the entire week, Johnson went 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.  Last Wednesday, she fanned six in four innings of relief to earn a victory at Pittsburgh.

 

In her last eight appearances, Johnson is 6-0 with a 1.12 ERA and a pair of shutouts.

 

The Golden Flashes went 3-1 to open Mid-American Conference play this past weekend.  Kent State returns to action Wednesday, hosting Robert Morris in a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m.
