Abbey Ledford Named MAC East Player of the Week

CLEVELAND- Kent State sophomore Abbey Ledford (West Liberty, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Softball Player of the Week on Wednesday.  Ledford earned a spot on the Wolfpack Challenge All-Tournament Team this past weekend after hitting .571 over five games with two home runs and 10 runs batted in.

 

Ledford recorded hits in all five of Kent State’s games at the Wolfpack Challenge, carried a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage.  She drove in at least two runs and scored at least one run in all three of Kent State’s wins on the weekend. 

 

The Flashes defeated Lehigh 9-2 on Friday and knocked off both NC State and Georgetown on Saturday.  Kent State needed just five innings to run rule the Hoyas 8-0 and piled up 15 hits in a 15-8 victory over the host Wolfpack.

 

Also a solid defensive player at second base, Ledford has started all 10 games this season.  She is hitting .379 with four extra-base hits and three walks.

 

The Golden Flashes (4-6) return to action this weekend with five games in three days at the Marshall Invitational.
