Kent State Women’s Basketball’s Krewson Named To 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 5 First Team
Junior guard from Sandusky, Ohio, carries a 3.98 GPA while leading the Golden Flashes with 11.8 points per game.
KENT, Ohio -- Kent State women's basketball junior guard Trisha Krewson (Sandusky, Ohio) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 5 First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The honor recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First‐team Academic All‐District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
Krewson is the lone selection out of the Mid-American Conference and joins Northwestern junior Kendall Hackney, Dayton senior Justine Raterman, Purdue senior Brittany Rayburn, Michigan junior Jenny Ryan and Western Illinois senior Sadie Webb on the District 5 squad, which covers the states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. An English major with a double minor in justice studies and pre-law, Krewson's 3.98 grade-point average is the highest on the District 5 team.
In her first season wearing the Blue & Gold after sitting out the 2010-11 season after transferring from Bucknell, Krewson is Kent State's top scorer this season, averaging 11.8 points per game to rank 11th in the MAC. She ranks second on the squad with 5.8 rebounds per game -- good for 15th in the conference.
Krewson has reached double figures in scoring on a team-high 11 occasions in 2011-12 and has totaled 15 or more points eight times. She led the charge in Kent State's 85-73 victory over Buffalo on Jan. 19, knocking down five threes to help accumulate a career-high 26 points and seven assists in addition to hauling in a game-high eight rebounds.
Krewson was named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Nov. 26 after averaging 17.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Golden Flashes finished the second week of the 2011-12 season with a split -- including a 65-64 triumph on Nov. 18 in the squad's home opener at the M.A.C. Center.
Kent State (5-14, 4-5 MAC) plays host to Toledo in its final interdivision home game of the 2011-12 season in a televised showdown on SportsTime Ohio, ESPN Full Court and ESPN 3. Tip time is set for noon from the M.A.C. Center.
