Kent State Women’s Basketball’s Season Ends With Tournament Loss At Ohio
Hutcheson leads all scorers with career-high 16 points in loss.
ATHENS, Ohio – The Kent State women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 58-40 loss to East Division rival Ohio in 2012 Mid-American Conference Tournament First Round action Saturday (March 3) at the Convocation Center.
The Golden Flashes (6-21) were faced with a 34-8 halftime deficit but finished their season by outscoring the Bobcats (14-17), 32-24, in the second half thanks to a 47.6%-31.0% shooting edge.
Freshman guard Jamie Hutcheson (Ancaster, Ontario) led all scorers with a career-high 16 points, reaching double digits for the ninth time in 2011-12. Freshman Dena Droste (East Lansing, Mich.) added eight points while junior center Leslie Schaefer (Verona, Wis.) tallied seven points and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds.
Redshirt senior guard Tenishia Benson posted a double-double with a team-high 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Mariah Byard came off the bench and knocked down four threes to finish with 12 points. Junior guard Ashley Fowler joined them in double digits with 11 points in addition to dishing out a game-high six assists.
