Women's Basketball Travels to Ball State for Televised Matinee on Saturday

Kent State @ Ball State Game Notes (pdf)

THE GAME

Kent State (2-14, 0-3) hopes to pick up their first conference victory in front of a televised crowd as they travel to Ball State on Saturday at noon. The game will be aired on SportsTime Ohio, ESPN3 and Comcast Indiana.

The Flashes are finding success in conference play at the free throw line. They rank 4th in the MAC with a 73% free throw percentage. Trisha Krewson sits atop the MAC, shooting a perfect 100% from the charity stripe in ten attempts. The team is also excelling when it comes to grabbing offensive rebounds. In conference games, Kent State is averaging 13.7 offensive rebounds a game, ranking them 2nd in the MAC. Individually, Heather Bachman is averaging 3.3 offensive boards a game while Tamzin Barroilhet is grabbing 3.0, ranking them 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Barroilhet has been the most consistent Flash on the floor this season. She is averaging 10.4 points and 6.7 rebounds on the year, including 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in conference play alone. Barroilhet has reached double figures in eight games this season. Fellow senior captain Krewson follows her with 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She averages a team-best 11 points against MAC opponents. Freshman Bachman has had career back-to-back games. She netted a career best 11 points against Akron and then a career-high 11 rebounds against Buffalo.

Coach Danielle O'Banion is sticking with her goal to lessen playing time for her players. Only two on the team are averaging more than 30 minutes of playing time a game. Only Barroilhet, Beckford and Krewson have averged more than 25 minutes a game.

Kent State lost a what looked to be a close battle to Buffalo at home in the latest contest by a score of 69-54. They kept things close until about the seven minute mark in the first, as Buffalo then pulled out a 13-point lead at halftime. Kent State came out of the locker room revived, only being outscored two points in the second half, but it was not enough. Krewson scored 14 while Barroilhet scored 12 with seven rebounds. Rachel Mendelsohn had ten points and six rebounds in her first career start.

Ball State enters the game on their first conference loss, a 73-42 defeat at Bowling Green. They have picked up conference wins at Northern Illinois and at home against Miami. Nathalie Fontaine leads the Cardinals, averaging 12.8 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. Katie Murphy also is averaging 6.3 rebounds on the season. Brandy Woody has a team-high 59 assists.
