Women’s Golf Slips, Finishes Eighth at Central District Invite
PARRISH, Fla. – The Kent State women's golf team was unable to carry over its success from Monday's second round into the final day of the Central District Invitational, as the Golden Flashes finished eighth in the 15-team field after posting a 301 during the final round.
Junior Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina) finished in a two-player tie for fifth place, as four bogeys over her final six holes prevented her from posting a below-par round. Germino finished with a three-over 75 on Tuesday for a one-over 217 for the three-round tournament.
Kent State got a pair of two-over 74s Tuesday from seniors Martina Gavier (Cordoba, Argentina) and Sarah Bradley (Cambridge, New Zealand) for the low round for the Golden Flashes. Bradley was steady on the front nine with an even-par 36; Gavier carded four birdies, but a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 14 marred her scorecard.
Juniors Shamira Marshall (Macedonia, Ohio) and Mandi Morrow (Kent, Ohio) finished the tournament with matching six-over 78. The duo both were tied for 59th on the week.
Iowa State edged the field with a four-over 868 to defeat second place and fourth-ranked LSU by nine strokes. LSU's Austin Ernst captured medalist honors with a three-under 213.
The Golden Flashes will return to the state of Florida March 6-7 for the Lady Gator Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida.
