Gavier, Germino Named Capital One Second-Team Academic All-District Performers

KENT, Ohio – Kent State women's golfers Martina Gavier (Cordoba, Argentina) and Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina) were both selected to the Capital One Academic All-District IV at-large second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday (May 19).

After earning third-team All-America honors last year from CoSIDA, Gavier earned all-district honors for the second straight year. Gavier, a two-time Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year, earned her degree this month with a 3.73 grade-point average in international relations.

Germino, who concluded her junior season with the Golden Flashes, boasts a 3.92 GPA in communications. Germino has been an all-conference golfer all three seasons and has been named to the Dean's List every semester at Kent State.

The at-large designation combines qualified student-athlete candidates for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors from NCAA Division I women's sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

Of note, seven of the student-athletes on the District IV at-large squad boasted a 4.0 GPA.

First-team academic all-district honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. Student-athletes on the Academic All-District second and third teams (if applicable) do not advance to the national ballot.

Sports information professionals from District IV (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama) that are members of CoSIDA vote upon academic all-district honors.
