Freshman Ha jumps to top-five finish; Germino rallies during tournament's final round

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Kent State women's golf team was unable to gain ground on the tournament field, but the Golden Flashes didn't give ground either as the team wrapped up its season-opening tournament Sunday with a fourth-place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State.

Freshman Jennifer Ha (Calgary, Alberta) vaulted herself into a top-five finish on Sunday, as the newcomer fired a one-over 73 to finish tied for fourth overall with a 224.

Also posting a stellar round on Sunday was senior Mercedes Germino (Necochea, Argentina), as she carded a two-over 74 for her final round to move her into a tie for 18^th place overall.

Senior Shamira Marshall (Macedonia, Ohio) fell off her pace from Saturday, but still finished in the top 15 with a 230 after shooting an 82 on Sunday.

Senior Mandi Morrow (Kent, Ohio) and junior Jackie Yanch (Barrie, Ontario) also shot 82s on Sunday; Morrow finished tied for 27^th with a 234, while Yanch placed in a tie for 36^th with a 238 in her first tournament with the Golden Flashes.

Playing as an unattached individual, sophomore Erin Hawe (Walton, New Zealand) moved up from her 12^th place through two rounds to a tie for 10^th overall on Sunday with a five-over 77, finishing with a 228.

Freshman Natalie Goodson (Hudson, Ohio) turned in her best round of the tournament for Sunday's finale, finishing with a birdie on No. 17 to wrap up with a four-over 76, good for a 240 and a tie for 42^nd place.

Kent State is back in action at Northwestern's Windy City Classic at Glen View Club Oct. 3-4.
