Former Women's Golf Standouts Dreher, Gavier Compete in Final Q School Tournament This Week
KENT, Ohio - A pair of former Kent State women's golfers concludes this fall's journey to earning an LPGA tour card this week when Kirby Dreher and Martina Gavier compete in the 142-golfer field at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 4 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Already guaranteed spots on the 2012 LPGA Futures Tour, Dreher and Gavier aim for one of 40 tour cards for LPGA Tour next season. The top 40 finishers (including ties) will receive LPGA membership for the 2012 season.
This week's event is the third qualifying tournament for prospective LPGA tour members. Gavier placed 38th with four other golfers in the first round of qualifying back in July and again finished in a tie for 38th place during the Stage II tournament.
Dreher, who is a member of the LPGA Futures Tour and the CN Canadian Women's Tour, tied for 25th in Stage II qualifying in September.
The tournament format will feature all 142 golfers playing 72 holes, with a 70-golfer cut at the end of those four rounds. The remaining golfers will play a fifth 18-hole round to determine the top 40 finishers.
Both Dreher and Gavier will tee off Wednesday's opening round on the Legends Course at LPGA International. Dreher will start from the No. 1 tee at 10:39 a.m. ET; Gavier will also start at 10:39 a.m., beginning on the No. 10 tee.
