Tice and Sasfy Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - Kent State junior Ross Tice (165) and sophomore Tommy Sasfy (149) were named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC Wrestling Team Wednesday by the conference office. A total of 10 student-athletes were named to the team by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.

Tice (28-12) was one of just two wrestlers in the group to claim the honor for the third straight season. Two weeks ago, he placed second at the Mid-American Conference Championships, going 4-1 on the weekend. Tice also finished 4-1 in MAC duals. Earlier in the season he placed third at the Body Bar Invitational, sixth at the Hokie Open and seventh at Southern Scuffle.

Sasfy (17-11) helped the Golden Flashes in a dual victory over North Carolina in November. In tournament competition, he placed second at the Ashland Simonson Open and fourth at the Cleveland State Open. Sasfy also went 4-2 at the Hokie Open.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
