Barlow Earns National Weekly Honor
Kent State senior Brendan Barlow (Westerville, Ohio) was selected as the Division I Wrestling Primetime Performer of the Week by CollegeSports360.com. Barlow played a major role in the Golden Flashes’ first place performance at the Virginia Duals this past weekend at the Hampton Coliseum.
Selection for the CollegeSports360 weekly awards is based on situational factors involved in the competitor's accomplishments, the quality of the opponent and contribution to team success.
For the Golden Flashes, the quality opponent came in the form of No. 9 Missouri and for Barlow, Tiger heavyweight Devin Mellon, who defeated him earlier this season. In Saturday night’s championship round against Missouri, the fate of the dual sat with the result of the heavyweight match as Barlow prevailed 3-2 to give Kent State an 18-14 victory.
The result of Barlow’s match also decided the semifinal round when the Kent State senior scored a 9-1 major decision over Matt Tourdot to give the Golden Flashes a 21-16 victory over Old Dominion. Barlow also helped the Flashes down Buffalo 22-12 in the quarterfinal round of the Virginia Duals with a 12-2 major decision against Jedd Mason.
Kent State (8-4, 1-0 MAC) returns to the mat Friday, visiting rival Ohio at 7 p.m.
