Bedelyon Earns Another Wrestler of the Week from MAC
Cleveland – Kent State senior Nic Bedelyon (Lewistown, Pa.) earned Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week honors for the second time this season on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the 2009 All-American moved up to a No. 2 national ranking in three polls.
Bedelyon (16-0) kept his perfect season in tact this past weekend, winning the 125-pound bracket of the 30th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. He went 5-0 at the Las Vegas Convention Center with his only close match of the tournament coming in the finals, a 3-1 decision over No. 5 Frank Perrelli (Cornell). In his first three bouts, Bedelyon collected two pins and a 16-6 major decision, before topping No. 9 Steve Bonnano (Hofstra) 8-1 in the semifinals.
Earlier this season, Bedelyon defeated Perrelli 9-4 in the finals of the Body Bar Invitational. Two nights later he downed Oklahoma’s Jarrod Patterson 7-3 at the NWCA All-Star Classic in Arizona. Bedelyon also upended another Top 10 opponent at the Wrestle for a Cure Duals, topping Jesse Delgado (Illinois) 9-3.
This weekend, the Golden Flashes host Missouri (Friday) and Ohio State (Sunday), where Bedelyon is expected to take on two more ranked opponents.
