Ian Miller Named MAC Wrestler of the Week
CLEVELAND – Kent State freshman Ian Miller (Oak Harbor, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week Wednesday. Miller had the only major decision for Kent State in its 22-13 victory over Central Michigan.
The No. 1 ranked 149-pounder in the MAC, Miller defeated CMU’s Joe Kielbasa, the MAC’s No. 2 ranked 149-pounder 13-5, behind five takedowns. Sunday marked the Flashes’ first home win over the Chippewas since 1996 and put Kent State (10-4, 3-0) alone in first place in the MAC standings.
Miller is 24-3 on the year with 10 pins, a technical fall and eight major decisions. Since Nov. 12, he has gone 21-1 with two tournament championships and is riding a 13-match winning streak. Miller was ranked No. 8 in the latest Division I Coach Poll and is No. 4 according to Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine.
Now tied for the No. 14 spot in NWCA Coaches rankings, Kent State has won eight straight dual meets and looks to lock up a MAC regular season title this weekend, hosting Buffalo Friday (Feb. 3) and Eastern Michigan Sunday (Feb. 5).
