In A Flash: Today is the first-ever matchup between Kent
State and Illinois State. Interestingly, it is also the first time
KSU will face a team from the Missouri Valley
Conference.
Scouting the Flashes: Kent State concluded the exhibition
portion of the 2010 campaign Aug. 13 with its scrimmage against St.
Francis at the KSU Soccer Field. The Red Flash edged Kent State,
2-0. KSU also hosted Duquesne Aug. 11 for a scrimmage, which
featured three 30-minute periods. Duquesne out-scored the Golden
Flashes, 2-1.
Scouting the Opponent: The Redbirds, who will start their season
Friday at Akron, played a pair of Indiana squads in preseason play
to get ready for the 2010 season. Illinois State lost a 1-0 contest
to Valparaiso Aug. 10 before a 5-1 victory against IUPUI Aug. 14.
Against IUPUI, Rachel Bostick had two goals while Jessica Carlson
added two assists. Last season, Illinois State advanced to the 2009
NCAA tournament, losing in the first round to Florida, 2-0.
Next Up: The Golden Flashes will return to action Sunday,
Aug. 29 when KSU travels to local foe Cleveland State for a 1 p.m.
