Kent State Soccer Signs Six for 2012

Three in-state standouts joined by top talent from region and Canada

Kent, Ohio – Kent State University soccer coach Rob Marinaro announced today (Feb. 13) the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent. All six have committed to join the Golden Flashes for the fall 2012 season.

Briana Bartolone (Auburn, Ohio/Kenston), Madison Helterbran (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), Nicole Lyon (Kitchener, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute), Ashley Mahoney (Cincinnati, Ohio/Badin), Stephanie Senn (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) and Stephanie Williams (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) have committed to join Kent State soccer.

"We are really proud of this recruiting class," said Marinaro. "They are wonderful young ladies and quality soccer players. We look for them to excel in the classroom and on the soccer field."

Bartolone, a 5-8 forward, was a four-year varsity starter at Kenston High School, where she also garnered first-team all-conference honors as both a junior and senior. Bartolone also was named a second-team all-district performer and played club soccer for Challenger Crew Juniors.

Helterbran, a 5-9 midfielder, is an Olympic Development Program Region II Pool player and plays for Pennine Soccer Club. Helterbran was named a three-time first-team all-county performer and was tabbed a second-team All-Ohio player last year. She also was named offensive player of the year three times.

Lyon, a 5-7 forward, was a member of the Ontario U14-U16 provincial team and was a part of Ontario's U-14 national championship team in 2008. A member of the Burlington Heat at the club level, Lyon aided the team to back-to-back OYSL West Division titles and an appearance in the 2011 Ontario Cup finals.

Mahoney, a 5-7 defender/midfielder, was a four-year starter at Stephen T. Badin High School, where she garnered all-conference honors all four seasons and academic accolades three straight years. Mahoney plays club soccer for Kolping Premier.

Senn, a 5-5 goalkeeper, was a three-year starter for Grand Island High School, earning all-state accolades twice, including a second team nod in 2011. At the club level with Empire Syracuse, Senn aided her team to the 2010 US Club national championship. Along with participating in the US Club National League for two seasons, Senn and Empire Syracuse were also a part of the Region 1 Premier League.

Williams, a 5-8 forward/defender, plays for the Iowa Rush Soccer Club, aiding her team to back-to-back State Cup championships. At the prep level, Williams was a two-time second-team all-conference honoree and was a four-time honor roll selection. She also was a member of the Iowa ODP for three years.
