Volleyball Adds Three to Roster for Upcoming Season

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State volleyball program added three student-athletes to its 2010 roster, head coach Glen Conley announced.

 

Zane Malasevska (Riga, Latvia/Rigas 19 Vidusskola), Hannah Herc (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Aleksandra Nowak (Damnica, Poland/Boleslawa Krzywoustiego) make up the Golden Flashes’ freshman class.

 

Malasevska, a 6’-1” outsider hitter/right side hitter, competed for SVK Riga in Latvia. She helped the club squad capture a gold medal at the Riga Cup and silver at both the Baltic Championships and Latvia Championships in 2010. Malasevska’s team also won gold at both the Latvia Cup and Riga Championships as well silver at the Latvia Championships during the ’09 campaign.

 

Herc, a 5’-7” defensive specialist/libero, earned 2009 PrepVolleyball.com High School All-America selection at Eden High School. She helped guide the Raiders to three state titles in addition to being named to the All-Western New York squad as a senior and all-conference three years. Herc also played for the Niagara Frontier Club Volleyball, winning a regional championship and Western Empire title.

 

Nowak, a 6’-0” setter, compiled numerous accolades while competing in Poland. A transfer to Wisla AGH Krakow in 2009, she earned promotion from the country’s third league to its second in ‘08 after helping her teams to back-to-back second-place finishes at the Province Kadet Championships (2005-06) and a silver at the Province Junior Championships in ‘07. Nowak also competed for the National Beach Volleyball Team in Poland.

 

Kent State’s 2010 season begins with the Spartan Classic in Norfolk, Va., Aug. 27-28. The Golden Flashes’ home opener is Aug. 31 against Pittsburgh at the M.A.C. Center.
