Kent State Volleyball Falls To Northern Illinois
Larsen totals team-high seven kills.
DeKALB, Ill. -- The Kent State volleyball team fell to Northern Illinois, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 26-24), in a Mid-American Conference interdivision match Friday (Oct. 21) at Victor E. Court.
The Golden Flashes (8-16, 1-8 MAC) have lost their last four matches.
Senior Maigan Larsen (Lancaster, Wis.) tallied a team-high seven kills. Junior Kathy Krupa (Burbank, Ill.) led the squad with two blocks (one solo, one assisted). Sophomore Aleksandra Nowak (Damnica, Poland) and freshman Jenny Buczek (Orland Park, Ill.) each reached double digits in set assists with 13 and 12, respectively. Freshman Bridget Grdina (Mentor, Ohio) led the team with 11 digs.
After dropping the first two sets, Kent State gave the Huskies (18-5, 7-2 MAC) a battle in the third. The Flashes rallied from a 12-7 deficit to open the set by using three kills from Krupa and two apiece from Larsen and Buczek to take a 21-20 advantage. Kent State and Northern Illinois traded points to tie things up at 24-all, but the Huskies closed out the victory with back-to-back kills.
Northern Illinois sophomore Lauren Wicinski led the match with 17 kills. She was joined in double figures by senior Allison McGlaughlin, who posted 12 kills. Redshirt junior Amber Walker recorded two service aces. Junior Mary Kurisch tallied a match-high four blocks (two solo, two assisted). Senior Kristin Hoffman totaled a match-high 40 set assists and 12 digs.
Kent State's five-match road trip continues Saturday (Oct. 22) with another MAC West foe on tap. The Flashes battle Western Michigan at 7 p.m.
