Kent State Picks Up Four Set Win Over Akron
Golden Flashes host Buffalo for Senior Day Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
KENT, Ohio - Kent State senior Maigan Larsen (Lancaster, Wis.), reigning the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, was at it again on Friday night producing a game high 18 kills to lead the Golden Flashes to a 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22) victory over rival Akron on Friday night.
Larsen produced eight of her kills in the decisive fourth set in which she also served up the game winning ace. Kent State trailed the set by a count of 11-8 before a 5-1 spurt by the Golden Flashes that was sparked by two kills from the senior outside hitter gave the Blue and Gold an 13-12 lead. The rest of the set, which consisted of 11 total ties and three lead changes, remained tight until three straight points by the Golden Flashes closed out the game.
Four kills a piece from freshman Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola (Ellicott City, Md.) and junior Kathy Krupa (Burbank, Ill.) led Kent State to a 25-23 win in set one. After Akron claimed set two, four different players had three kills a piece for the Golden Flashes in set three. Kent State broke the go ahead set open with an 8-1 burst for an 18-11 lead before haning on for a 25-20 win.
Aderemi-Ibitola finished the game with nine kills, while Krupa had seven to go along with her eight total blocks. Freshman libero Liz Reikow led the team with 16 digs, while sophomore Hannah Herc had 13.
Winners of three of their last four games, Kent State will now close out the season tomorrow against Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Golden Flashes program.
