Walk-off Inside-the-Park Homerun by Rosa Saves Senior Day Sweep

KENT, Ohio - Dylan Rosa took the second pitch of the bottom of the 9th inning, belted it to dead center, then put on his jets to score on an inside-the-park homerun to allow Kent State (29-19, 16-8) to walk-off. The 7-6 win on senior day capped off a weekend sweep of Bowling Green (19-27, 11-13) and was the second walk-off of the three-game series.
With the win and a Central Michigan loss on Sunday, the Golden Flashes remain in second place in the Mid-American Conference but now sit just a game back of the Chippewas in the quest for a regular season title.
Kent State had to continually work its way back into the game to set up the 9th inning dramatics. Bowling Green was able to get out to a 3-0 lead in two innings on a handful of base hits and a RBI double in the 2nd.
That lead was short-lived, as Zarley Zalewski singled to lead off the bottom of the 2nd and came home on a Conner Simonetti double. Senior Jeff Revesz then evened the score with a homerun to left field.
The Falcons scored twice more in the 5th but the Golden Flashes answered again and got in front with a three-run 6th. In the frame, Tommy Monnot reached on an error before Simonetti homered to left center to tie things at five. Curtis Olvey then smacked what looked to be the game-winning run on a homerun of his own, deep to center field.
Down 5-6, Bowling Green rallied in the 9th to tie the game on a single, sacrifice bunt and another base hit. But, Rosa ended things quickly in the bottom of the inning to save the senior day sweep.
Andy Ravel went 4.0 innings in the start with four earned runs on nine hits. He struck out five. Jared Skolnicki pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in relief with four hits and two strikeouts. He left the game with two runners in scoring position in the 8th, but Josh Pierce came into the game and ended the threat quickly. Pierce got the win after 1.1 innings of work.
Rosa finished the day 3-for-5 to lead the Kent State offense that collected 11 hits, including seven for extra bases. Simonetti and Olvey both finished with two hits in four at-bats.
Next up for the Golden Flashes is the annual Diamond Classic for Kids held Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Canal Park in Akron. Tickets are $5 with proceeds benefitting Akron Children's Hospital. The game kicks off the final regular season series of the year with the final two games coming at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at Akron. Kent State has clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament that begins May 20 at All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon.
