KENNESAW, Ga.- For the second straight year, the No. 19 Kent State women's golf team won its second-straight tournament taking the title at the Hennsler Financial Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club with a score of 9-over par 873.
"We were very proud of the way they competed today," said head coach Greg Robertson. "They did a great job of keeping their composure after Ole Miss got off to a fast start and pulled ahead at the beginning of the round. It was great to see us close it out with some birdies on our last few holes."
The Flashes pulled out a win in taking down two top-50 nationally ranked teams. Kent State finished seven strokes ahead No.40 Ole Miss, and 11 ahead of 43rd ranked Kennesaw State.
Individually, Kent State sophomore Pimnipa Panthong (Nakhon Sawan, Thailand) was named the tournament champion. Panthong, currently ranked 35th in the nation, earned the trophy with a score of 6-under par 210. She was one of three players in the field that finished under par. Panthong carded a 69 3- under par in the final round to end the tournament. This is Panthong's second-straight tournament win.
"We're really happy for Pim, she played well all week to earn her second-straight win."
Also in the top-10 were sophomore Karoline Stormo (Tvedestrand, Norway) and freshman Kory Nielsen (Kent, Ohio). Stormo finished fourth at 2-over par 218 and shot a 72 on Tuesday to secure her top-10 finish. Nielsen ended the tournament in a tie for eighth at 5-over 221. She fired her best round on Tuesday and carded a 73 1-over par score with birdies on 11,12, and 16.
"Karoline and Kory played solid as well to us three in the top-10."
All four scorers finished in the top-25, with junior Michaela Finn (Ängelholm, Sweden) finishing in a tie for 23rd at 11-over par 227. Finn fired her best round of the tournament on Tuesday at an even-par 72 scoring an eagle on a par 5 hole.
Freshman Chloe Salort (Ermont, France) finished tied for 30th at 13-over 229. She carded a 77 5-over on the final on round three.
