KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team posted multiple season-highs in its last regular Mid-American Conference meet against Bowling Green. The Golden Flashes beat the Falcons, 196.625-195.400.
The Flashes scored season-best team scores on uneven bars (49.275) and floor exercise (49.425), while tying the season-high balance beam score (49.025). On vault, Kent State posted its second-best beam score of the season (48.900).
"I could not be prouder of the team," said head coach Brice Biggin. "We were really disappointed with our performance the last time we were here at the M.A.C. Center, and we came out focused tonight and performed the way that we know that we're capable of performing. It's really difficult at times to have everybody be on. Today, they were all on, and that is what we need in order to be successful."
Senior Rachel Stypinski posted her career-high all-around score of 39.575, which is the third-best in the program history. Stypinski won two of the four events including bars and floor, putting up a 9.925 on both events. The senior also finished second on vault (9.825) and beam (9.900).
Four of the six gymnasts in the Golden Flashes' vault lineup placed in the top five. Sophomore Sarah McCarty and Freshman Abby Fletcher tied for second place with a career-high 9.825. Freshman Sydney Chapman took fifth place with a 9.750.
On beam, Kent State took four of the top six places. Junior Kennedy Plude led off the team and posted a 9.850, taking third place. Junior Sarah Lippowitsch tied her career-best score for fourth place (9.800), while Fletcher posted her career-high tying for sixth (9.775).
The Flashes' season-high bar score (49.275) is the highest team score since Mar. 6, 2016 in a meet vs. Cornell, as well as fifth highest score in program history. Kent State took the top five spots with senior Michaela Romito scoring her career-best, and tying for second with senior Brooke Timko (9.850). Senior Ali Marrero and Lippowitsch tied for fourth place with a 9.825.
Kent State dominated on floor, taking four of the top five places all with scores better than 9.850, including three personal-bests. Fletcher tied for first place with Stypinski, posting a career-best 9.925. Freshman Nasha Manitkul-Davis tied her career-high, tying for third place with a 9.900. McCarty also dropped a new career-high of 9.875, taking fifth place.
